Cyclists cannot decide between long-distance cycle paths - the 'Frog' trail, the Mulde Valley and the Elbe Valley, the last of which stretches through 140 miles of fascinating landscapes in Saxony alone. The Ore Mountains, the Vogtland, Upper Lusatia and Dubener Heath are a paradise for hikers.
For those who prefer riding or hot air balloons, water and winter sports such as free-climbing, mountain biking or kite-surfing, Saxony is the perfect destination.
Gentlemen start your engines... Racing is written in capital letters in Saxony. The region boasts two ultra-modern race tracks. The Euro-Speedway in Lausitz, which has a diversity of tracks that even attracts the American Champ Cars, and the Sachsenring, which is one of the most modern tracks in Europe. Both leave speed lovers nothing to be desired. And you can even test your driving skills in person at regular vehicle tests, safety training courses and sports car training sessions. \"Need for speed\" also applies to the go-cart tracks in Saxony - one of which is located a the Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal.
Climbing Fans from all over the world can conquer the peaks of the rock faces in Saxon Switzerland. There are 14,000 climbing routes here and 1,100 peaks, some free-standing, to scale. Degrees of difficulty range from easy to extreme.
Rafting and Trekking You can also devote yourself to the wildly romantic river landscapes in Saxony. River and mountain bike trekking hold the promise of adventure and outdoor fans can realise their dreams. Anyone who likes to canoe or raft can test their skills and response times in the rapids, and their endurance along the slow-flowing stretches of the 100 kilometres of river that lead to the estuary. Anyone who prefers to keep their feet dry can walk or cycle along the romantic riverbanks. A perfect way to end the evening is a camp fire or barbecue.
Hiking
Saxony is the perfect place for long and eventful hikes due to its many European hiking trails. In the Ore Mountain region alone, you will find around 5000 km of well-signposted hiking trails.
Flying
Only flying is better... Sometimes you'll hear the locals in Saxony say: Only flying is better\". \r\rAnd they are right. Everything is possible in Saxony, from looking down over the countryside from a hot-air balloon at altitudes of between 150 and 1,000 meters to paragliding and light aircraft travel. Anyone who wants to can get their glider license and, after thorough glider training, take to the air on their own. Lessons are offered by a variety of good flying schools.
Golf
Seven golf courses make Saxony a genuine golfers paradise.In the Dresden region alone there are two, three in Leipzig, one near Chemnitz and one high above the roofs of Zwickau. All are located in unique natural scenery, with beautiful woodland surrounding the fairways, lakes, bunkers and woodland courses. The 6-hole, 9-hole and 18-hole courses all have experienced golf instructors and welcome both amateur and professional golfers.
Cycling
There are six major cycle routes in Saxony, some of them taking cyclists across to other German states. The Spree Forest Cycle Route, the Frosch Cycle Route and the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route , which are a total of 1,100 kilometres in length, take cyclists straight through the Oberlausitz region. They can discover 1000 lakes, the Zittau Mountain Range, cities such as Bautzen, the Sorb population and their traditions, mining landscapes and parks, with white storks and kingfishers.
The 300 km-long Muldental Cycle Route leads through the beautiful Valley of Castles. Magnificent forts and majestic castles line the green river banks like a string of pearls. The Zschopautal Cycling and Hiking Route is 140 km long and leads to the gems of the Ore Mountains. One of these gems is the traditional art of Ore Mountain woodcarving. The wooden toy makers have been masters of this traditional craft for more than 300 years.
Horse riding
Riding is a trend sport. 21 stables offer children and adults, beginners and professionals, the opportunity to learn how to ride or to hack out along the extensive riding trails throughout the region.
